New Hampshire establishes a colonial government in accordance with the recommendation of the Continental Congress.  This may be the last time New Hampshire goes along with the rest of the country for a while.

At Waddell’s Point, South Carolina, the HMS Tamar and the HMS Cherokee detain ships leaving Sullivan’s Island.  The 1st South Carolina Regiment sent troops to reclaim the boats.  Meanwhile the 4th South Carolina Artillery fired on the British forcing them to retire.  Both sides retired with little damage.

George Washington, meanwhile, wrote a letter to General Sullivan regarding matters along New Jersey, and made a suggestion about what to do with the incorrigible Loyalists – “I am of Opinion those Officers of Governmt & the notoriously dissafected there should be removed with all Expedition to less dangerous Places.”
