Upon learning of the British expedition against the southern colonies, Congress requests the provinces to work together in order to assure the defense and security of all. North and South Carolina are asked to occupy Saint Augustine.
In Massachusetts and Boston, all New England enlistments expired.
In Norfolk, Virginia, American forces had 3 killed in action and 7 wounded from Lord Dunmore’s bombardment which burned many buildings. The Patriots retaliated by burning the homes of prominent local Tories.
And lost but not least, General George Washington hoists the first National Flag at Cambridge. It consisted of the Union Jack and 13 alternate stripes of red and white, representing the 13 colonies.
